Postgraduate Plagiarism

Plagiarism seems to be a hot topic in the news at the moment. Here is an illustration I did for the Guardian which appeared in yesterdays education section.

I did this for Regenerate Magazine a couple of weeks ago. As you can probably guess it was about re-fitting run down council blocks and making them into desirable properties.

End Petlessness

During the summer months I drew a lot of dogs, cats, and bunnies as part of the 'End Petlessness' campaign for the Oregon Humane Society. The campaign was devised by the creative team at Leopold Ketel & Partners in Portland to raise awareness of the Oregon Humane Society and of course to encourage more people to adopt pets.

I also spent a lot of time working on a 30 second TV commercial for the campaign which has been airing in Oregon for the last few weeks:

Music: 'Hands in Pockets' by Laura Gibson
Big thanks to Brian and Jason at Leoketel for being very cool to work with!

Odds on Favourite.

I just finished this one last week for Joel at Aspect media. An illustration for the letters page of "Close Up" magazine, which is produced for Ladbrokes the high street bookmaker. The main letter in this issue is full of madcap betting tactics on various different sports. I still don't know anything about the world of betting but I had lots of fun doing this one.

Keeping up with the Joneses.

This was for Sainsbury's Magazine about moving into a new area and the pressure of keeping up with your neighbours. Personally I'm quite ok with the fact that my neighbours appliances are newer and better than mine.

I have just made a small site update to my portfolio with six new images. In other news you can see a few bits of my work in the current issue of Advanced Photoshop in their "The Ultimate Portfolio" feature.

One year on...

I've just noticed that my blog is a year old Today! According to my behind the scenes blogger admin panel thing I've made 50 posts over the last year which is pretty much a post a week! I'm not quite sure how that's happened but hopefully I can keep it up at the same rate.

This illustration appeared in the Los Angeles Times over the weekend for the cover of their real estate supplement.

Astrogirl!

Astrogirl is one of two billboard posters I did recently for the Scottish Executive for part of their Healthy Living campaign. The posters were only on show in Scotland for a brief period so you've probably already missed them. The Astrogirl poster was based on a piece of work I did earlier last year. In fact it was the first thing I posted on my blog. You can see Astroboy in the archive.

Why don't you turn off your television set...

and go and do something less boring instead!

A couple of my Illustrations that appear in the current issue of Sainsbury's Magazine. Research shows that watching too much TV shortens your life expectancy. If you ARE spending 15 hours a day watching Television then please make sure you don't drink too many 'Cola'style fizzy drinks. Drinking too much fizzy pop weakens your bones!

The Art of Copying.

I just got a copy of this booklet which I did the illustrations for a few months ago. It's really nicely printed and it looks great. Shame my photographs are so badly taken! Big thanks to Camillo at Dacs for the copy of the booklet and of course for the commission in the first place!

Naked Penalties for The Observer.

This is an Illustration I finished off in double-quick time on Friday night for Paul Wilson's Football column which appears in today's Observer. Wilson is discussing the comments made earlier in the week by FIFA President Sepp Blatter. Blatter believes that penalties are no way to decide a world cup final and he has been suggesting a few ideas such as reducing the number of players left on the pitch to make scoring a winning goal easier. Wilson offers an alternative solution : Naked penalty shootouts. The reasoning being that players will do anything to avoid penalties if they have to strip off!

Some Stuff coming up : I've adopted the Bloodhound for my entry to the Wurstminster Dogshow which takes place in Portland, Oregon in Febuary 2007. It seems a fair way off yet but I have to get my dog to Jason by December 1st so I will be starting on that soon. Check out the The Wurst Gallery for more cool projects including the excellent Vintage Vandals.

Also in the pipeline, I shall be doing something for the If you could do anything tomorrow - What would it be? Project which looks like lots of fun

Campus complaints

This Illustration appeared in yesterdays Guardian Education supplement.

"Baroness Ruth Deech, the first independent adjudicator, is particurlarly concerned that the reluctance of some universities to deal with complaints is prompting students to turn to lawyers to resolve their grievances. As students and their parents become ever more determined to get value for money, particularly with top-up fees looming this autumn, Deech believes a campus ombudsman - or obmuds, as they are known in the US - could be an idea worth pursuing in the UK."
